Dolly Parton’s New World Record

To say that Dolly Parton is an icon is an understatement. The country star has become not only synonymous with country music, but also left a lasting impression in Hollywood in the film roles she’s played. Her bubbling persona has garnered millions of fans around the world and left a legacy for generations. And now she can add a new record to her list of achievements.

Dolly Parton has officially become the first musical artist to have chart-topping country hits in every decade from the 1960s to today. This record was made only recently, with the release of Pentatonix’s reworked version of her classic, “Jolene.” Parton is now the only artist with hits in the Top 20s on Hot Country Songs for the '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s and '10s. These include iconic tunes like “9 to 5”and the original song, “I Will Always Love You”, which was made famous again by Whitney Houston’s cover for “The Bodyguard” film in 1992.

In celebration of her achievements, here’s a list of just some of those fantastic hits in every decade:

  • 1960s: “Just Because I’m A Woman”, “Something Fishy”

  • 1970s: “I Will Always Love You”, “Coat of Many Colors”, “Here You Come Again”

  • 1980s: “9 to 5”, “Think About Love”, “Yellow Roses”
